Sainik School Kunjpura Karnal (Haryana) is one of the pioneer educational institutions established in the country in 1961 at the behest of the then Defense Minister, Shri VK Krishna Menon. The School is located in district Karnal and thus has the singular honour of being in the land of ‘Mahabharat’ where Lord Krishna discoursed and enlightened ‘Arjuna’ with the knowledge of ‘Geeta’. Sainik School Kunjpura is located Ten Kms from the heart of the city of Karnal and Seven Kms off the National Highway No 1 ( Sher Shah Suri Marg). Far from the madding crowd it stands majestically sprawled on 276 acres of lush green environment.
The primary aim of this institution is to prepare boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakvasla, Pune. The school also aims to bring Public School Education within the reach of common man and economically weaker sections of society. One of the main objectives is also to prepare those cadets who fail to join NDA, for coveted careers elsewhere. Besides preparing the boys for entry into NDA, the school prepares them for Secondary and Senior Secondary Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education.
Candidates are admitted in the school in classes VI and IX only. Admissions are given in accordance with a merit list drawn on the basis of performance of candidates in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance (Written) Examination (held on first Sunday of January each year), Interview and Medical fitness. The Centres for written examination are at New Delhi, Rohtak and Kunjpura (subject to change). 67 % seats are reserved for Haryana domicile students, 25 % for wards of Defence personnel and ex-servicemen. If seats are unfilled as per above reservation policy, then students from other states are considered for admission. 15% and 7 % seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates respectively. The Prospectus and Admission forms are generally available in the school from first week of October onwards. The exact dates, etc are promulgated through media.
The prospectus cum application form for admission in Sainik School Kunjpura may be obtained from the Principal Sainik School Kunjpura, Karnal (Haryana)-132023 w.e.f. 14 Oct 2013 to 30 Nov 2013 on all working days between 1000-1300 hrs by paying cash Rs. 400/- for General and Defence categories and Rs. 250/- for SC and ST categories. The prospectus may also be obtained by post by sending an application on plain paper by mentioning address and category along with a DD of State Bank of India of Rs. 450/- for General and Defence categories and Rs. 300/- for SC and ST categories, drawn in favour of Principal, Sainik School Kunjpura, payable at SBI Kunjpura (Code No. 2400).

Duly filled application form can be submitted by post or in person alongwith a DD of State Bank of India in favour of Principal, Sainik School Kunjpura, payable at SBI Kunjpura (Code No. 2400). of Rs. 400/- (for General and Defence categories) and Rs. 250/- (for SC and ST categories).Other documents are to be submitted as mentioned in prospectus.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM :
Duly completed application to reach Principal, Sainik School Kunjpura, Karnal (Haryana)-132023 by 1400 hrs on 07 Dec 2013 positively. Application received after due date/Incomplete application will be summarily rejected and no further communication to this effect will be made on this subject. The School will not be responsible for rejection of the application on account of postal delay/any other ground/reason.
The existing fee structure (liable to revision from time to time) applicable to students of all classes is as follows: (a) Tution Fees Rs. 35,431.00 (b) Diet Money Rs. 8,861.00 (c) Other charges including Clothing Rs. 2,500.00 (d) Incidental Charges Rs. 2,500.00 (e) Refundable Security Deposit Rs. 3,000.00 for General/Defence and Rs. 1,500.00 for SC/ST students. (f) Total Fee (payable by new admission) Rs. 52,292.00 for General/Defence and Rs. 50,792.00 for SC/ST students.
A number of scholarships depending on the student’s academic performance and income of parent are awarded by the Min of Defence (sons of serving/retired Defence personnel) and Govt of Haryana (Haryana domicile students).
