FASHION DESIGNING

SCIENCE AND TEXTILES

Answer five questions choosing at least two from Section A and two from Section B. All working, including rough work, should be done on the same sheet as the rest of the answer.

The intended marks for questions are given in brackets [ ].

 

SECTION A

Question 1                            [10]

As a student of Fashion Designing, you have learnt about the various textile fibres that are manufactured and sold in the market under various names. Keeping this in mind, explain the following:

(a) The various textile fibres and their classification.

(b)  Any two tests and their results to identify pure cotton and pure silk from the duplicate fabrics that are sold under the same names.

 

Question 2                       [10]

Indian people are famous for celebrating various festivals like Dlwali, Durga Poota, Janmashtami, etc. and also make it a point to wear new clothes on these occasions. It is also well known that silk fabric is one of the preferred fabrics on these occasions. In this context, give details of this fabric based on the following:

(a) Its origin and production.

(b) Its physical and chemical properties.

 

Question 3                       [10]

Every one of us would like to wear such clothes that are properly laundered and neatly ironed.Both silk and woollen fabrics are protein fibres. However, they cannot be laundered by following the same procedure and therefore, need different treatments. Keeping this In view. explain the procedure Involved during the following stages of laundering of silk and woollen fabrics:

.         (a) Pre-laundering.                        (b) During washing.                (c) Finishing and drying.

 

Question 4

Textile industries follow different methods in the production of fabrics. A common a student of Fashion Designing, what is your knowledge on the manufacture of fabrics by the methods of:                              [20]

.                         (a) Basic weaving                          (b) Knitting                          (c) Braiding

SECTION B

Question 5                       [20]

The modern market provides a variety of fabrics that are created by various methods, and printed. In this context, state any two methods followed in:

.                                   (a) Dyeing of cotton fabrics.                          (b) Printing on silk fabrics.

 

Question 6                      [20]

Many innovative fabrics are manufactured to provide variety to the consumers by eeping  their special nature in mind, give the guidelines to the followed in the stage, cleaning, care and maintenance of the following:

.                        (a) Plastic and rubber.                                 (b) Leather and simulated furs.

Question 7                      [20]

The recent trend has shown that the Indian industries have advanced in many position in our country. One cannot ignore the important role played by these industries in our life. In this context, state:

(a) The contribution of textile industry in the economy of our nation.

{b) The growth of textile industries in recent years.

 

Question 8                       [20]

A common man buys the fabrics mainly by their looks and appearance, which are the result of various finishing processes carried out during different stages in the manufacture of  fabrics. Keeping this in mind, give information on the following:

(a)Any five finishing processes that are carried out during the production of textile fabrics.

(b)  Any five finishing processes carried out at the yarn stage and two finishing  processes carried out at the fabric stage with regard to cotton fabrics.
