CBSE 10th English Communication (101) Exam Pattern

There are three section in the English Communication subject for CBSE Class 10th. Check the detailed exam structure below:

  • Section A (20 marks) – This includes questions from reading comprehensive wherein two unseen passages are provided. Also, note making is provided in this section.
  • Section B (20 marks) – This section generally examines the writting skill of a candidate which shall include – letter writing, notice writing, article writing, poster making, etc.
  • Section C (20 marks) – This section test the student’s grammar skills.
  • Section D (20 marks) – In this section, questions are based on literature and poems.

CBSE 10th English Communication Last Minute Revision Tips

Below we have provided few important tips for a candidate to prepare for CBSE Class 10th English Communication exam.

Tip #1. Focus on NCERT

Prepare for the exam as per the syllabus and exam pattern given by CBSE. Focus on NCERT textbooks, build good vocabulary, and improve your writing skills.

Tip #2. Improve reading comprehensive section

The Section A of English Communication intend to test student’s ability to read and understand a passage as they answer questions related to the given passage. It is a scoring section and to prepare for this section, it is best that you must solve 2-3 passages daily. Carefully read the passage and then proceed to answer the questions.

Tip #3. Improve writing and grammar

To prepare for the writing part, students should practice writing letters, notices, articles, essays, advertisements, poster making, etc. Remember that these are to be written as per the format. Proof read your written part to ensure that there is no spelling errors.

For the Grammar part, you need to solve questions like on fill in the blanks, re-arrangement, and omission type questions, etc. One thing which can help a student to improve their grammar is communicating in English.

Tip 4. Read chapters and poems thoroughly

English language is something which cannot be studied or mastered in a day. Solve previous year papers and time themselves to do better in the exam. This will help you to frame and present long answers properly.
