Section C – Literature


Ques – 9 a Why did Lencho’s happy mood change into concern?

This question is from the chapter Letter to God. Ans (a) As Lencho had innumerable amounts of faith in god, he wished and prayed for the rain to arrive  and thus throughout the morning Lencho sat in his house and waited for the rain to come. As soon as the rain started, he/she called them gold and silver coins. For an hour the hail rained on the house, the garden, the hillside, the cornfield, on the whole valley. The field was white, as if covered with salt. Not a leaf remained on the trees. The corn was totally destroyed. The flowers were gone from the plants. Lencho’s soul was filled with sadness and thus his mood changed totally.

Nelson Mandela was overwhelmed with the sense of history. The system had turned forever forever and replaced by one that recognised the rights and freedoms of all peoples,regardless of the colour of their skin.

Ques 10-a What lessons on death and suffering did the Buddha teach Kisa Gotami in the chapter ” Sermons at Banaras?

Buddha teaches the life lessons on death and suffering to Kisa Gotami in a very peculiar way. He says that Not from weeping nor from grieving will anyone obtain peace of mind; on the contrary, his pain will bethe greater and his body will suffer. He will make himself sick and pale.He who seeks peace should draw out the arrow of lamentation, and complaint, and grief. He who has drawn out the arrow will obtain peace of mind; he who has overcome all sorrow will become free from sorrow, and be blessed

Yes, difficulties do come in the way when you want to achieve something and similar was the case with Vali. She had made elaborate plans and thriftily saved whatever stray coins came her way,
resisting every temptation to buy peppermints, toys,balloons, and the like, and finally she had saved a
total of sixty paise also resolutely stifled a strong desire to ride the merry go-round. Valli always used these hours for her ‘excursions when her mother would nap.

Q.11-b A brilliant scientist though he was. Griffin misused his scientific discovery? Illustrate the points by giving any two examples?

Griffin, the scientist, had carried out experiment after experiment to prove that the human body could become invisible. Finally he swallowed certain rare drugs and his body became as transparent as
a sheet of glass. A true scientist is also a law abiding person but he was rather lawless and burned the house of his landlord.
