NMMS is Centrally Sponsored Scheme and it was launched in year 2008 by Department of School Education & Literacy under the MHRD. The objective of the NMMS is to award scholarship to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to support and encourage them. The selection of students award of the scholarships is made through an NMMS examination conducted by the State Governments.

Important Information
Dates: NMMS scholarship is generally announced every year during the month of July and its deadline falls in the month of October. This application period is tentative as it varies from year-to-year. It may change the next year as per the discretion of the scholarship provider.
Eligibility: Candidates who wish to apply for NMMS scholarship must be regular students studying in class 8 after getting clear promotion from class 7 with a score of at least 55% or equivalent grades.
Syllabus: There is no syllabus for NMMS Examination. However, questions will be asked on the basis of syllabi of Classes VII and VIII.
Examination Subjects: The NMMS will comprise of two papers –
- Mental Ability Test (MAT) consisting of 90 multiple choice items with four choices on reasoning and critical thinking to be answered in 90 minutes. The questions may be on analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern, perception, hidden figures etc.
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) consisting of multiple choice items with four choices from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, History Geography, Political Science and Economics to be answered in 90 minutes.
NMMS Preparation Tips
- NMMS syllabus includes the Class 7th & 8th syllabus of NCERT & State boards. Divide the syllabus strategically so that you cover all topics and chapter one month before the exam date for the preparation of the exam.
- Students should focus on the weak topics more before moving to strong areas. Work on your weak areas more.
- Cover the entire syllabus to get more marks in the examination as qualifying the exam is not the only criteria to get the scholarship. Students should score good marks to get listed in merit candidates.
- Practice more NMMS question papers to make your preparation stronger. These last years papers cover most of the important topics.
- Do not forget to revise the prepare syllabus. The more you revise the better will be your chances to score high in NMMS.
