Answer : (b) 26.8 cm

Question 11: Solve (-32) – (-50)

Answer : -32 – (-50)

  •  -32 + 50
  •  18 ans.

Question 12: Convert 72 cm into metre.

Answer : 1 meter = 10 cm

  •  72 cm = 72/100
  •  0.72 m ans.

Question 13: Find the sum:

27.076 + 0.55 + 0.004

Answer :

  •  27.076 + 0.55 + 0.004
  •  27,630 ans.

Question 14: Mr. Bansal spends Rs. X daily and saves Rs. Y per week what is his income for two weeks?

Answer : Income for 1 week = Rs. (y + 7x)

  •  Income for 2 week = Rs. 2(y + 7x)
  •  Rs.(2y + 14x) ans.

Question 15: Arrange the following decimals in ascending order:

0.8, 8.8, 8.08, 88.8, 0.08

Answer : Decimals arranged in ascending order are:

  •  0.08, 0.8, 8.08, 8.8, 88.8

Question 16: Subtract 17/6 from 33/4

Answer : 33/4 – 17/6

  •  (99 – 34)/12
  •  65/12 ans.

Question 17: The side of a square is 14 cm, find its area.

Answer : Side of a square = 14 cm

  •  Area of square = (side)2
  •  (14 *14) = 196 cm2 ans.

Question 18: Find the value of 12/15 = 7/15

Answer : 12/15 = 7/15

  •  (12 -7)/15
  •  5/15
  •  1/3 ans.

Section – C

Question 19: These are 20 girls and 45 boys 1n a class

  • (a)    What is the ratio of number of girls to the number of boys?
  • (b)   What is the ratio of number of girls to total number of students in the class?

Answer : Number of girls = 20

  •  Number of boys = 45
  •  (a) ratio of number of girls to no. of boys = 20:45
    4:9
  •  (b) Total no. of students in the class = 20 + 45 =85
     Ratio of no. of girls to total no. of students = 20:85
     4:17

Question 20: The length and breadth of a rectangular field arc in the ratio 3:2 the cost of covering the field at Rs. 6.50 per meter is Rs. 520. Find the dimension of the field,

Answer : Let the length =(3x)n

  •  The breadth =(2x)m
  •  Perimeter of the field = 2(3x + 2x)
  •  (10x)m
  •  According to question
  •  Perimeter of the field = (Total cost)/(Rate per meter)
  •  520/6.5
  •  80m
  •  Therefore, 10x = 80
  •  X = 80/10
  •  8
  •  Dimension of the field will (3 *8)m and (2 * 8)m or 24m and 16m.

Question 21: A wire of length 7/8 m is broken into two piece. If the length of 1 piece is 1/4 m what is the length of other piece?

Answer : Total length of wire = 7/8 m

  •  Length of one piece = 1/4 m
  •  Length of other piece =(7/8 – 1/4)m
  •  (7 – 2)/8
  •  5/8 m

Question 22: Find the perimeter of the adjacent figure.

Answer : Perimeter of figure =sum of all sides

  •  (5 + 6.5 + 9 + 6) cm
  •  26.5 cm

Question 23: Solve (-2) + (8) + (-4) on the number line,

Answer : 

Question 24: Write coefficients of:

(a)    a in 5ab2c

(b)   ab in -5abc

(c)    y in -3xy

Answer :

(a)    Coefficient  of a in 5ab2c is 5b2c

(b)   Coefficient  of ab in -5abc is -5c

(c)    Coefficient  of y in -3xy is -3x

Question 25: Draw the line symmetry for the following English alphabets:

Question 26: The cost of a pen is Rs. 19/3 and that of a pencil is Rs. 21/5, which costs more and by now much?

Answer : The cost of a pen = Rs. 19/3

  •  The cost of a pencil = Rs. 21/5
  •  The cost of a pen is more = Rs. (19/3 – 21/5)
  •  (95 – 63)/15
  •  32/15 ans.

Question 27: Urmila’s school at a distance of 5 km 350m from her home, she travels 1 km 70 m on foot and rest by bus, How much distance does she travel by bus?

Answer : Distance of school from home = 5 km 350 m

  •  Distance covered on foot = 1km 70 m
  •  Distance travelled by bus = (5 km 350 m – 1 km 70 m)
  •  3 km 280 m ans.

Question 28: Express the following as an using decimals :

(a)    2 mm
(b)   30 mm
(c)    4 cm 2 mm

Answer :

(a)    2/10 cm = 0.2 cm
(b)   30/10 = 3 cm
(c)    4 + 2/10 = 4.2 cm

Question 29: Dram any line segment . Mark any point M on it. Through M draw a perpendicular to . (Use ruler and compass)

Answer :

  •  Step 1: Given a point M on the line – segment .
  •  Step 2: with M as center and a convenient radius, construct part of cicrcle(arc) intersecting the line – segment at P and Q
  •  Step 3: with pand Q as center and radius greater than pm construct two arcs.
  •  Step 4: Join MN. Then MN is perpendicular to .

Question 30: Add the following

(a)    25/8 + 17/12
(b)   11/3 + 11/6 + 2

Answer :

(a)    25/8 + 7/12

  •  (75 + 34)/24
  •  109/24 ans.

(b)   11/3 + 11/6 + 2

  •  (22 + 11 + 12)/6
  •  45/6
  •  5/12 ans.

Question 31: A marble file measures 25 cm by 15 cm. how many tiles will he required to cover floor of dimensions of 10 m and 3 m?

Answer : Area of floor 10m * 3m

  •   30m2
  •   Area of tile = 25 cm * 15 cm
  •   375 cm2
  •   No. of tiles = (Area of floor) /(Area of tile)
  •   (30 * 100 * 100)/375 cm2
  •   800 tiles ans.

Question 32: Cost of 4 dozens bananas is Rs. 60. How many bananas can be purchased for Rs.12.50?

Answer : In Rs. 60 no. of bananas purchased = 48

  •   In Rs. 1 no. of bananas purchased 48/60
  •   In Rs. 12.50 no. of bananas purchased = 40/60 *12.50
  •   4/5 * 1250/100
  •   2*5
  •   10 bananas

Question 33: Find the cost of fencing a rectangular pack of length 175m and breadth 125m at the rate of Rs. 12 per meter.

Answer : Length of the rectangular park = 175m

  •   Breadth of the rectangular park = 125m
  •   Perimeter of park = 2(l + b)
  •   2(175 + 125)m
  •   2 * 300
  •   600m
  •   Cost of one meter of wire = Rs. 12
  •   Cost of fencing the rectangular park = Rs. 12 * 600m
  •   Rs. 7200 ans.

Question 34: Give expressions in the following cases:

(a)    11 added to 2m
(b)   5 times y to which 5 is added
(c)    3 times y from which 3 is subtracted
(d)   11 subtracted from 2m

Answer :

(a)    2m + 11
(b)   5y + 5
(c)    3y – 3
(d)   2m – 11
