KVPY Preparation 2021

KVPY Preparation 2021 – KVPY is a premier scholarship examination through which the candidates can study in leading research institutes of India like IITs and IISERs. It is a scholarship examination that is offered to the candidates belonging to class 11th, 12th and first of UG program in Basic Sciences. For the preparation of KVPY the candidates need to do is to understand the concepts of Mathematics and Science subjects properly. Most of the students consider this scholarship exam tougher than other examinations as most of the questions that are asked in the exam are according to JEE Main or JEE Advanced level. For the preparation of KVPY, the candidates need to first complete the syllabus of their previous class. Check more tips and tricks to prepare for KVPY 2021 from this page.

KVPY 2021 Preparation Tips

ATSE 2022, Olympiad Registration Open.

Check the preparation tips suggested by the toppers given below.

  • For SA stream, since all the subjects have to be attempted, make sure to study all the four subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics properly.
  • Coming to the Biology section in KVPY, the questions that come in this section are relatively easy. So, to get an edge in the section, go through the NCERT books properly.
  • In the Physics section, questions asked are a bit tough and time-consuming. So, buck up and practice more and more numericals. In the Physics questions, innovative questions are asked. So, to attempt this section, practice more and more question papers of previous years. To attempt the Physics questions, learn the formulas well, and attempt this question at the end of paper only as this is the most time-consuming section.
  • For the Chemistry section, try to give one month to prepare for Organic Chemistry. Do not refer too many books. Just keep two preparation books and prepare from them only.
  • For clearing the KVPY interview, know the syllabus for which stream you have applied. Human Interaction is one of the key elements for clearing the interview. So, dress well and be honest while answering the questions. Most of the questions are related to the subject in which the students have to do the research.

Conclusion:

Phase I: Divide the preparation into two Phases. In the first phase, go through the NCERT books properly and understand the concepts. After knowing the concepts, practice a couple of mock tests daily. Learn the formulas so that they are on the fingertips at the time of solving the questions.

Phase II: During the second phase of preparation, try to refer other books and solve questions from them. In this phase, increase the frequency of solving the questions. So, solve more and more question papers. Cross-check the syllabus and solve the questions of previous and other classes as well. For instance, if a student is preparing for SA steam, then, he / she must refer class 10th as well as 12th class books. If a student is appearing for 12th class paper, then he / she must clear the concepts of class 11th first.

General KVPY 2021 Preparation Tips

Check the preparation tips given below for KVPY 2021.

#Tip 1: Make a Good Study Plan: Before starting with the preparation, make sure to prepare a good study plan. Stick to this time schedule even a day before the examination. While preparing the study plan, set targets and decide well in advance that these chapters have to be covered in one week and remaining chapters have to be covered in this much time. For making a good study plan, check the syllabus of the previous class and then, make notes about which sections need more time to prepare and which need less time.

# Tip 2: Study from Good Books: This is the most important technique to score well in the examination. Always pick renowned books that have properly stated concepts for the preparation. For KVPY, there are many online books available according to different streams which can be referred for the exam. Remember, it is always preferred to practice from NCERT books. So, practice accordingly.

# Tip 3: Understand the exam pattern well: To score well in any examination, it is important to go through the exam pattern before starting with the preparation. Check how much total time is given to the candidates to complete the exam and then, decide which areas or questions that might help in completing the test on time. Also, check the marking scheme of a particular stream in order to score well in the exam.

# Tip 4: Complete the Syllabus on Time: Make sure to complete the syllabus on time. If any topic was left for last month’s preparation, do not forget to do it before the examination. Try to complete the syllabus of JEE Main as well as KVPY. Do not fret if any topic is left untouched before the exam. Just make sure what has been studied till now is clear enough to attempt the questions on the same topic in the exam.

#Tip 5: Give Mock Tests: For the preparation of any exam, mock tests are considered to be the ultimate tool to score well in the examination. This is because mock test helps the test-takers to know about the functioning of exam. For instance, the test-takers get an idea about how much time has to be devoted to a particular section, now at this time this section must attempted, this section must be attempted first etc. So, practice more mock tests while preparing for KVPY.

Subject Weightage for the Preparation of KVPY 2021

Check the topics that must be covered while preparing for KVPY given below, as shared by the toppers.

Mathematics SA Stream – As this is the examination for 11th class, the questions asked in this stream are of 10th class level. According to the toppers, these questions from these topics are doable. Most of the questions are asked from Geometry, Algebra, Number Theory.

Physics (SA) stream – Most of the questions in Physics are from 12th class Optics, Electricity and Magnetism. Questions from 10th as well as 12th class are asked in Physics. One can refer NCERT books or H.C Verma for the preparation of this stream Physics subject. So, prepare from 10th as well as 12th class books.

Mathematics in SX Stream – The questions asked in SX stream are set according to the difficulty level of JEE Advance. The questions that are generally asked in Mathematics of SX stream are from the topics limits, functions, calculus. If one is preparing for JEE Advanced, then, its enough for KVPY preparation.

Chemistry and Biology questions in any stream – Questions from Chemistry are generally concept based and memory – based. This is why, it is necessary to attempt Chemistry questions first in the test. According to the toppers, one should attempt chemistry and biology questions first and then, go to Mathematics and Physics questions.

To sum up, solve chemistry and biology in first 45 minutes and then, solve Mathematics and Physics questions as they are time-consuming. The cut-off for the interview is around 50% so, try to solve chemistry and biology questions first to get the minimum qualifying marks set by the institute.
