What Is New in the Geography Specimen Paper 2027?
Compared with the 2026 specimen paper:
- Same frame as the 2026 specimen (70 marks, 3 hours, 13 questions; Section A 14 × 1, Section B 7 × 4, Section C 4 × 7), but internal choice increases from two Section B + one Section C question in 2026 to three Section B + two Section C questions in 2027
- Map question changed: 2026 Q1 had two 3-mark ‘mark and label’ items plus four 1-mark map MCQs; 2027 Q1 is eight 1-mark map MCQs (mark/identify the correct option and label it on the map)
- Section A Q2 grows from 4 objective items (A–R, analogy, choose reasons) in 2026 to 6 items in 2027, three of which are short written answers (iron & steel, Malwa plateau, raw material)
- Competency tags renamed (Understanding/Analysis → Understand/Analyse) and a new ‘Create’ question added (Q9(ii): steps you would take as a State Forest Department officer); Analyse now carries about 31 of 70 marks
- Section C questions now have 2 subparts (4 + 3 or 5 + 2) instead of the mostly 3-subpart (2/3 + 2 + 2/3) questions of 2026; more image/graph stimuli (slum photograph, settlement photos, sex-ratio graph, rainfall-variability map)
- Answer key provided in both years
Questions from the Geography Specimen Paper 2027
Two questions from the 2027 paper, to show the level:
- Section A, 1 mark: How does the eroded landscape of Malwa plateau pose a challenge to farming? (Analyse) [Q2(v)]
- Section B, 4 marks: Assess how the formation of doabs has transformed Punjab from a subsistence landscape to a commercialised agrarian economy. (Analyse) [Q3]
ISC Geography Specimen Paper 2027 Answer Key
Correct options for objective items, map answers marked on an answer map, and suggestive value points (bulleted) with marks for Sections B and C – the key says any other correct answer will be accepted. Solve the paper first with a timer, then check your answers against the key.
How to Score Well – Tips from the 2027 Paper
- Practise locating plateaus, peninsulas, lakes, coastal plains, Indus tributaries, nuclear plants and ports on an outline map of India – all 8 marks of Q1 are answered on the map.
- Learn to read climate tables (monthly temperature and rainfall of two cities) and graphs such as sex-ratio trends – Section B builds 4-mark Analyse questions on them.
- Most marks are for Analyse/Evaluate: write reasoned points (causes, effects, paradoxes such as the Brahmaputra as destroyer and lifeline) rather than definitions.
- Prepare current schemes and data cited in the paper – Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari, CAMPA, APEDA/horticulture – and be ready to suggest steps as an officer (Create).
- Draw sketch maps/diagrams where they help, as the instructions ask.
- Solve the 2027 paper in one sitting – 3 hours plus 15 minutes reading time, like the exam, then check it with the answer key, and solve the 2026 paper a few days later.
