What Changed in the New NCERT Books?

  • New book names – for example, Class 8 Maths is now Ganita Prakash (it was “Mathematics”), Class 9 Science is Exploration and Class 9 English is Kaveri.
  • Chapters are rewritten and reordered – topics moved between chapters. In Class 9 Science, “Structure of the Atom” (old Chapter 4) is now inside Chapter 8 Journey Inside the Atom, and Chapter 4 is now Describing Motion Around Us.
  • Books in parts – Maths and Social Science in Classes 7 to 9 come in Part 1 and Part 2 (in some books Part 2 starts its chapter numbers again from 1; on this site chapters are numbered straight through).
  • Activity- and competency-based – more activities, “think and reflect” questions and real-life examples, in line with the CBSE competency-based questions.
  • The old books (Honeydew, Beehive, Vasant and the old Mathematics/Science books) are no longer prescribed for these classes – use the new books for 2026-27.
