Durga Puja Essay in 100 Words – Set 1

Durga puja is a nine-day long festival celebrated by the Hindus. However, the days of the puja celebration varies according to the place, custom and beliefs. While some people celebrate the festival for five days, others celebrate for seven or nine full days. Devotees worship the idol of Devi Durga and immerse the same on the last day of celebration, i.e. Dashami. Mostly, people in the community or society celebrate the festival by decorating a pandal in the nearby regions. But, on all the days of the festival, the nearby temples become full of devotees, especially in the morning. However, people do worship at home with all the arrangements and go for statue immersion to the nearby river on the last day.

The festival is also celebrated in Delhi, Bombay, Madras and other cities and towns including the villages. Historically, Durga Puja was first performed in Bengal by a zamindar. After that, it became popular with the introduction of the sarvojanin pujas performed with the joint effort of about twelve zamindars and hence it is called barwari.
