Durga Puja Essay in 200 Words for Students in English

Festivals should not stop even when the world is going through a hard time. This is because they light the hope for better days. With the onset of Durga Puja eve, it is time to share our good wishes and thoughts. Starting from October 12, 2021 (Maha Saptami), the Puja will end on October 15, 2021 with Vijaya Dashami. For those who want to know more about the festival, here are some short essays that could be interesting to read.

Durga Puja Essay in 200 Words – Set 1

Our country is the land of festivals and this is the reason why people of various religions live here and celebrate their festivals throughout the year. Particularly Navratri or the festival of nine nights, popularly known as Durga Puja is celebrated by people of Eastern India. The preparation begins at least two months prior to the festival. People clean up their houses, buy new clothes, decorate their buildings, etc.

This festival changes the atmosphere throughout the country. People usually go to the temple and offer their prayers to Goddess Durga. Some even worship the Goddess at home with complete preparation and devotion for their healthy lives and well-being. The celebration of Navratri or Durga Puja marks the victory of good over evil. It is commonly believed by people that on this day Goddess Durga had conquered the bull monster Mahishasur. 

The Goddess, with the help of Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Shiva killed this demon and freed it from the world. He was killed on the tenth day, which came to be known as Dasara. The actual meaning of Navaratri is the nine days and nine nights’ war between the Goddess and the monster. But, the main attraction of this festival is the large crowd of foreign tourists, including devotees and spectators.

Durga Puja Essay in 200 Words – Set 2

Durga Puja is one of the main festivals of the Hindus that is celebrated every year with great preparations. Goddess Durga was the incarnation of the daughter of the Himalayas and Meena, and later Sati, who married Lord Shiva. As per common belief, the worship began for the first time when Lord Rama wanted to kill Ravan. So, he invoked the power of Goddess Durga.

However, Goddess Durga is also worshipped in Navratri because it is believed that she had killed a monster named Mahishasur after a long war. The Goddess has ten weapons and all the weapons have different meanings and purposes. Due to the blessings of Goddess Durga, people are relieved of their helplessness.

On this day, devotees of Durga keep fast for nine days. But, some people only fast for the first and the last days. People worship the Goddess and offer prasad, water, kumkum, coconut, vermilion etc. Everything around looks pretty as the atmosphere becomes very clean and refined. It seems that Goddess Durga has come to everyone’s homes to shower her blessings. Devotees believe that when they worship the Goddess, their lives get filled with happiness, prosperity while darkness and evil powers are removed. Moreover, to please the Goddess, people also give food to seven or nine unmarried girls along with some dakshina.

Durga Puja Essay in 200 Words – Set 3

Durga Puja is one of the main festivals of Hindus. This festival is also known as Durgotsav. The festival starts with Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, MahaNavami and ends with Vijaya Dashami. The idol of Goddess Durga is represented with ten hands and each of them has different weapons. People worship and invoke the power of Goddess Durga to stay protected from the evil powers.

Durga Puja is celebrated at many places in many places in India, such as West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Manipur, etc. This festival primarily celebrates the whole idea of Shaktism. Goddess Durga is worshipped in Navratri because it is believed that she killed a demon named Mahishasura after 9 days and nights of the war. Every pandal has a beautiful statue of the Goddess Durga and the entire outpost is embellished. The festival of Durga Puja or Navratri is widely known in Gujarat. There, people celebrate it with music and Garba dance.

Similarly, in Kolkata, Pandals are decorated with the idol of the Goddess while immersion of the same is done on the tenth day of the festival. By observing 9 days, the blessings of Goddess Durga are attained and the person is likely to stay safe from damaging power and achieve success in life.
