The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) has released the Kerala board results on its official websites, keralaresults.nic.in and dhsekerala.gov.in. Approximately 4 lakh students participated in the exams held from March 6 to March 27, 2024. Following the results, many candidates and guardians are keen to understand the kerala board grading system and how to convert marks to grades.
Kerala Board Grading System 2024
DHSE uses a nine-point grading system to evaluate students, combining grades from both the first and second years of higher secondary education. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the grading system:
As per the kerala grading system, students scoring between 180 and 200 will receive the A+ score and the ones scoring between 160 and 179 will get the A score. This is followed by 140 to 159 (B+), 120 to 139 (B), 100 to 119 (C+), 80 to 99 (C), 60 to 79 (D+) and 40 to 59 (D). Scores below 40 will be given the E grade. Candidates must secure D+ grade in all subjects to be eligible for promotion to higher studies. Please note that the eligibility for higher students is based on grades obtained after combining the first and second year higher secondary examinations.
Students must achieve at least a D+ in all subjects to qualify for promotion to higher studies. This eligibility is determined after combining the first and second-year grades.
For Music, 30% each of the maximum score of PE & TE is necessary for D+ Grade or above. There will be no separate minimum for CE and PE whereas a minimum of 48 scores for subjects without practicals and 36 scores for subjects with practicals for TE is compulsory.
Marks Distribution:
The distribution of marks varies for different subjects:
- Subjects without Practicals:
- Total: 100 marks each in the first and second years
- Music:
- First Year: 60 marks
- Second Year: 140 marks
- Biology:
- First Year: 80 marks
- Second Year: 120 marks
- Subjects with Practicals:
- First Year: 80 marks
- Second Year: 120 marks
All subjects have a combined total of 200 marks from both years. The combined scores obtained by a candidate in the First & Second Year Higher Secondary Examinations taken together and grades there upon will determine the eligibility of the candidate for higher studies.
By understanding this grading system, students and guardians can better comprehend the evaluation process and how marks translate into grades for the Kerala Plus One results.
