7 Mistakes to Avoid in Class 10 Hindi Board Exam

One of the 7 common mistakes that the students generally commit for Hindi subject is the spellings. The use of the “matras” and common usage of words in sentences are the silly mistakes that students make while writing the paper and which cost them marks. Thus, we are here to help. Take care of the below given 7 things while last-minute revision and this might help score much better in the exam:

#1. “Matras”

The matras can be perfected if the pronunciation of the words is better. The students can check below some of the differences between the usage of the “matras” to understand this:

इ and ई

  • इ =  ि  x किसलिए (kisliye)
  • ई = ी x खीर (kheer)

उ and ऊ

  • उ = ु x गुलाब (gulab)
  • ऊ  =  ू x  भूल  (bhool)

ए and ऐ

  • ए = े x  केश (kesh)
  • ऐ =  ै x  है (hai)

ओ and औ

  • ओ = ो  x  चोर (chor)
  • औ  = ौ  x चौखट (chaukhat)

The above examples simply depict how the use of matras are related to the proper pronunciations of words. Thus try practicing the exact pronunciation of the words, read the lines out loud while you are revising and it will help with the “matras” and their usage.

#2. Using Gender

The use of Gender in Hindi can be a bit tricky for many. The gender to be used before a noun / pronoun / verb must be taken care of. For this make sure to understand the gender of the noun / pronoun / verb and accordingly use the gender. A few examples are:

  • Incorrect: मेरी बेटा और बेटी आज दिल्ली गए हैं।
  • Correct: मेरा बेटा और बेटी आज दिल्ली गए हैं।

In the above sentences, बेटा is masculine thus the gender used for him is मेरा and not मेरी.

  • Incorrect: देखो कौन आई है?
  • Correct: देखो कौन आया है?

कौन (Who) in Hindi is masculine and thus it will be आया and not आई.

Thus, it is all about knowing the gender of the subject that is being talked about n the sentence.

#3. Time Management

The paper is lengthy, no doubt. Students have to complete the entire paper in 3 hours and they have to attempt unseen passages, grammar, textbook sections, and the writing section.

The writing section might be the most time consuming and thus the students must keep the last 1 hour for this section. If possible keep 1 hour 15 mins or so for this section. This section has essay writing, letter writing, advertisement making, etc. These are time-consuming no doubt. Thus make sure while the last minute revision of the subject, time management is also taken care of.

#4. Do not leave any question in a hurry

In the exam make sure to keep checking the questions that you have attempted. There is no negative marking in the paper, thus make sure to attempt all the questions. If you cannot answer questions leave it and move on. At the end, if time is left try to attempt the left out questions, even if a line or so that is relevant. It might fetch you some marks.

#5. In the first 15 mins, read the unseen passage

If possible in this 15 minutes read the unseen passage once. Therefore once the exam starts the basic idea of the passage is grabbed by the students already! There will be one passage of 10 marks. There will be 6 questions or so to be asked based on the passage. This section will fetch you a 10 whole marks if correctly answered.

#6. Read the instrcutions

There are instructions at the start of the question paper. Read them, in the exam 15 minutes is given for this purpose. During this time, read the instructions and go through the paper. Plan which section to attempt first and then so on.

#7. Understand the question

This is also one of the most common mistakes that the students commit. They do not get what the question is asking and answer it incorrectly. Therefore make sure to calm your mind and read the questions correctly and comprehend it. Answer to the point. Frame the answers in such a way that the answer to the question is in the first 2 lines and rest in the other parts of the answer.
