What Is in Plants and Animals Live Together? (Class 3 EVS Chapter 5)
- Where there are plants, there are animals too. Some animals live on plants, some around them and some underneath them.
- Soil is the topmost layer of the Earth’s surface. It is made from rocks broken into tiny pieces, old leaves, roots, stems, and living and dead animals like insects.
- Many insects and other creatures live in the soil. Ants, termites, small beetles and grasshoppers move on the top layer. Earthworms and millipedes may appear when it rains.
- Animals, birds and insects use different parts of plants for food, shelter and resting.
- Food: camels eat leaves, monkeys eat fruits, caterpillars munch leaves, and sunbirds and butterflies drink nectar.
- Shelter and rest: owls use tree hollows, squirrels and crows build nests with twigs, tailorbirds stitch leaves, and bats and leopards rest on branches.
