What Is in The Frog? (Class 5 English Chapter 5)

  • The Frog is a poem in which the frog speaks about its own life. It sits in ponds, in the rain and in muddy drains.
  • As a tadpole it swims like a tiny fish. It flicks its tongue to catch food, lives on land and in water, and its colours help it hide.
  • It must beware of snakes, yet it croaks loudly and feels proud in its pond. It hops high and swims with its webbed feet.
  • Main idea: even a small, ordinary animal is well made for its life and can be proud of who it is.
  • Language work: joining words (and, or, but, so, because), putting words in the right order, tongue twisters with the f sound, and the short e and a sounds (bet–bat).
  • Activities: draw ‘My Frog’s World’, reply to Hopper the frog, find five hidden animals, draw a duck, solve a crayon-fish puzzle and find facts about water creatures.
