Sainik School Punglwa has released the notification for admission to Class VI and Class IX for boys only through All India Sainik School Entrance Examination.
Aim – The primary aim of Sainik Schools is to prepare boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy. The other objectives of Sainik Schools are:-
- To remove regional imbalance in the officer cadre of the Defence Services.
- To develop qualities of body, mind, and character enabling the young boys of today to become good and useful citizens of tomorrow.
- To bring public school education within the reach of the common man

A candidate may opt to apply online by clicking the link that is provided on the school web portal www.sainikschoolpunglwa.nic.in. The registration is to be completed by filling the data online and the prescribed fee is to be deposited through net banking. On completion of registration, a printout of the application form along with necessary documents as mentioned at para 26 is to be submitted in person or by post at the address given below.
Note– The Candidates should note that AISSEE 2020-21 registration will be done ONLINE. No offline registration for any school will be done this year
The online registration fee may be obtained on payment as under:-
- For General and Defence Category: Rs. 400/-
- For Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe: Rs. 250/-
Eligibility criteria for admission:
For Class VI:-
- Candidate should attain 10 to 12 years as on March 31, 2020
- Domicile of Arunachal Pradesh: Born between April 01, 2008 and March 31, 2010.
For Class IX:-
- Candidates should attain 13 to 15 years as on March 31, 2020.
- Domicile of Arunachal Pradesh: Born between April 01, 2005 and March 31, 2007.

The entrance exam shall be based on the syllabus up to Class V and Class VIII for the candidates appearing for Class VI and Class IX respectively. The exam shall be based on multiple choice questions in which the correct option is to mark in blue/black ballpoint pen on the OMR answer sheet provided to the candidates. Please note pencil is not to be used for marking in the OMR answer sheet.
The entrance exam shall cover the following topics with the breakdown given as under:
In addition to the above marks, 50 marks have been kept aside for the interviews.
For Class VI:
- Sainik School Punglwa.
For Class IX:
- Sainik School Punglwa
Qualifying Standards for Class VI and Class IX.
For General and Defence candidates, the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination are as follows:
- 25% marks in each paper.
- 40% marks in aggregate.
For SC/ST candidates there is no qualifying passing minimum mark. Candidates shall be selected based on their ranking in the merit list.
15% of the total seats are reserved for scheduled castes and 7% seats for scheduled tribes. Out of the remaining, 67% of the seats will be reserved for boys from Nagaland State. Balance 33% leftover of seats will be thrown open to boys from other States and Union Territories in the ratio of their male population. Any unutilized seats in this category will be merged with home State seats in order of merit.
25% seats (Home State Defence and all India Defence) are reserved for children of Defence personnel including Ex-servicemen.
Candidates are admitted based on the merit in All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination. Candidates may please note that result has been announced after the examination process is over. Roll numbers of the candidates shortlisted in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination 2020-21 for admission to classes VI & IX in Sainik School Punglwa for the academic session 2020-21 will be available at official website. The shortlisted candidates are required to appear before Medical Examination and Interview Boards conducted by concern authority.
Interview and Medical Examination
After finalization of written test results, only the short-listed candidates will be called for an interview and medical examination during sociability and self-confidence of the candidates. The interview will carry 50 marks. Thereafter, candidates shall be examined by a Medical Board at 165 Military Hospital, Rangapahar, Dimapur or 155 Base Hospital, Tezpur or any other military medical establishment. The decision of the Medical Board will be final except where a Review Medical Board may be accepted by the military medical authorities on the merit of the rejected cases. A case, in which competent medical opinion is produced to counter the findings of the previous Medical Board will normally merit a review. If the Review Medical Board finds him fit for admission, the Principal will admit him to the school as per the final order of merit list, only if the rejection was on account of lack of medical fitness. The School will charge a fee of ` 200/- (` 100/- for SC/ST) for holding a Review Medical Board. The boys who qualify in the written exam, interview and medical examination are admitted strictly in the order of final merit list, category wise, subject to the availability of vacancies in the School. The results of the written examination and final merit after the interview and medical exam will be published in local leading national dailies and School website. The result will be intimated by post to successful candidates only.
