Practical work and Internal Assessment together carry 70 marks, making up the bulk of the Painting evaluation.
The Practical exam (3 hours, 70 marks) is based on Still Life: accurate drawing with proper composition of objects (15 marks), compositional arrangement with emphasis on the subject matter (15 marks), treatment of medium with an appropriate colour scheme (10 marks), and originality, creativity and overall expression (10 marks) – totalling 50 marks. The remaining 20 marks of Internal Assessment include three Periodic Tests in the year (best two counted, 10 marks) and a Portfolio of the 10 best works of sketches, still life and painting compositions done during the year (10 marks). Suggested practical work includes still life studies of everyday objects, simple compositions based on folk art forms like Madhubani and Warli, sketches from life and nature, and field visits to art galleries and museums.
