CBSE Class 9 Hindustani Music Syllabus 2026 has been released by the Central Board of Secondary Education for the 2025-26 academic session. Hindustani Music is offered in three streams – Vocal (Subject Code 034), Melodic Instruments (035) and Percussion Instruments (036). A student opts for any one stream. Each stream is a 100-mark course split as 30 marks Theory (2-hour written paper), 50 marks Practical and 20 marks Internal Assessment. The curriculum is built around Hindustani Ragas (Yaman, Alhaiya Bilawal, Kafi, Bhupali) and Talas (Teentala, Ektala, Keharwa, Dadra). CBSE Class 9 Hindustani Music Syllabus 2026 – Marks Weightage (Theory + Practical)

Every Hindustani Music stream carries 100 total marks – 30 for the Theory paper, 50 for the Practical examination and 20 for Internal Assessment. The weightage split is identical across Vocal, Melodic and Percussion streams.

For the Vocal and Melodic streams the practical viva runs 15-20 minutes per candidate; the same applies to the Percussion stream, which additionally requires an 8-10 minute solo recital in Teentala or Aditala. In every stream the practical is centred on the prescribed Hindustani ragas and talas, so consistent riyaz (practice) with the Tanpura or the chosen instrument is essential.

CBSE Class 9 Hindustani Music Syllabus 2026 – Exam Pattern (Theory + Practical)

The Class 9 Hindustani Music examination combines a written Theory paper with a Practical examination. The theory paper of 30 marks (2 hours) is set with internal choice across five units. The scheme, common in structure to all three streams, is as follows.
