Each Hindustani Music stream carries 100 total marks – 30 marks for the Theory paper (2 hours) and 70 marks for the Practical examination. The Theory paper is divided into 5 units of 6 marks each.

Hindustani Music at Class 11 is offered as three separate subjects, each with its own subject code and practical scheme. All three follow the 30 Theory + 70 Practical pattern.
The Practical examination (70 marks) is the larger component in every stream. For Vocal (034) it includes a choice Raga in Vilambit & Drut Khayal (15 marks), Examiner’s choice raga (12), one Dhrupad with Dugun (14), a Devotional Song (6), raga recognition (8), recitation of thekas (10) and a practical file (5). For Melodic Instruments (035) and Percussion Instruments (036), the practical similarly rewards gat/composition performance, raga/tala identification, recitation and the practical file. Candidates should also handle accompanying instruments such as Tanpura and Harmonium and demonstrate layakari across the prescribed Talas.
