The Carnatic Vocal (031) stream focuses on singing the prescribed ragas with varnams, kritis, alapana and kalpana swaras. The Melodic Instruments (032) stream adds instrument-specific technique such as gamakas and tuning of the opted instrument (for example veena or violin). The Percussion Instruments (033) stream centres on Mridangam (with knowledge of Kanjira, Tavil and Ghatam), covering thekas, mohras, korvais and orally rendered sollukattus. Whichever stream is chosen, students also complete a common 20-mark Internal Assessment comprising a project file, project work on live concerts and periodic practical tests.
