Under the Theory paper, Unit 1 covers Pre-Historic rock paintings (Bhimbetka), the Indus Valley Civilization (seals, bronzes, terracotta) and Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art from the Mauryan to Gupta periods, including Ajanta. CBSE Class 11 Fine Arts Syllabus 2027 – Practical Work & Assessment
Fine Arts is a heavily practical-oriented subject – Practical carries 70 of the 100 marks, more than double the Theory weightage. The practical exam runs for 6 hours (3+3, with a one-hour break) and is evaluated on the spot jointly by internal and external examiners.
Prescribed Practical Work (Painting stream example): Part 1 – Nature and Object Study (pencil, light and shade, natural and geometric forms) for 25 marks. Part 2 – Painting Composition (imagination-based, human figures) for 25 marks. Part 3 – Portfolio Assessment (record of the year’s performance, five selected object-study exercises, one painting composition, two selected paintings) for 20 marks. Graphics, Sculpture and Applied Art streams follow an equivalent Part 1/Part 2/Portfolio structure suited to their own technique (printmaking, modeling, or lettering/layout respectively). All practical works done during the year must be certified by the school and are evaluated on the spot by the examiners.
