CBSE Class 11 Fine Arts Syllabus 2027 (Subject Code 049 to 052) has been released by the Central Board of Secondary Education for the 2026-27 academic session. Students choose any one of four streams – Painting (049), Graphics (050), Sculpture (051) or Applied Art-Commercial Art (052). It is a 100-mark course – 30 marks Theory (History of Indian Art, 2-hour exam) and 70 marks Practical (studio work spread over 6 hours). CBSE Class 11 Fine Arts Syllabus 2027 – Marks Weightage (Section-wise)

The CBSE Class 11 Fine Arts exam carries 100 total marks – 30 for Theory (History of Indian Art) and 70 for Practical, regardless of which of the four streams (Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Applied Art) a student opts for.

CBSE Class 11 Fine Arts Syllabus 2027 – Syllabus Areas / Techniques

Fine Arts at Class 11 is offered in four streams – a student takes only one. The Theory (History of Indian Art) paper is common to all four streams, while Practical content and technique differ by stream, as listed below.

History of Indian Art (Theory, all streams) Painting (Code 049) Graphics (Code 050) Sculpture (Code 051) Applied Art – Commercial Art (Code 052) Pre-Historic Rock Paintings Indus Valley Civilization Buddhist, Jain & Hindu Art Temple Sculpture & Bronzes Indo-Islamic Architecture Nature & Object Study Relief & Round Modeling Linocut/Woodcut Printmaking Lettering & Layout Elements & Principles of Visual Art

Under the Theory paper, Unit 1 covers Pre-Historic rock paintings (Bhimbetka), the Indus Valley Civilization (seals, bronzes, terracotta) and Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art from the Mauryan to Gupta periods, including Ajanta. Unit 2 covers Temple Sculpture (Mahabalipuram, Elephanta, Khajuraho, Konark, Dilwara), South Indian bronzes (Nataraj) and Indo-Islamic architecture (Qutub Minar, Gol Gumbad).

CBSE Class 11 Fine Arts Syllabus 2027 – Practical Work & Assessment

Fine Arts is a heavily practical-oriented subject – Practical carries 70 of the 100 marks, more than double the Theory weightage. The practical exam runs for 6 hours (3+3, with a one-hour break) and is evaluated on the spot jointly by internal and external examiners.

Prescribed Practical Work (Painting stream example): Part 1 – Nature and Object Study (pencil, light and shade, natural and geometric forms) for 25 marks. Part 2 – Painting Composition (imagination-based, human figures) for 25 marks. Part 3 – Portfolio Assessment (record of the year’s performance, five selected object-study exercises, one painting composition, two selected paintings) for 20 marks. Graphics, Sculpture and Applied Art streams follow an equivalent Part 1/Part 2/Portfolio structure suited to their own technique (printmaking, modeling, or lettering/layout respectively). All practical works done during the year must be certified by the school and are evaluated on the spot by the examiners.
