Fine Arts is a practical-heavy elective. Out of 100 marks, only 30 are for the theory paper, while 70 marks are for the practical examination and portfolio. The theory-practical split is as follows.
Prescribed practical work: The 70-mark practical is divided into Nature and Object Study (25 marks – still-life of two or three objects with two draperies, in pencil with light and shade and full colour from a fixed point of view), Painting Composition (25 marks – imaginative painting based on subjects from life and nature in water and poster colours), and Portfolio Assessment (20 marks). The portfolio includes at least 6 best paintings of two years from sketch to finished product, 6 selected nature and object study exercises, 2 painting compositions, and 1 work based on any Indian Folk Art – totalling 16 art works submitted for evaluation.
