The CBSE Class 12 Political Science course is organised into two parts – Contemporary World Politics and Politics in India since Independence – spanning 15 chapters in all. The key topics under each chapter are as follows.
Contemporary World Politics covers the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the end of bipolarity, rise of the European Union, ASEAN, and China as new centres of power, democracy in South Asian neighbours, the structure and reform of the United Nations and other international organisations, traditional and non-traditional security threats, global environmental concerns, and the causes and consequences of globalisation.
Politics in India since Independence covers nation-building challenges after Partition, Congress dominance in the early general elections, planned development and the Five Year Plans, India’s external relations including NAM, China and Pakistan, the decline and restoration of the Congress system, the 1975 Emergency and its aftermath, regional aspirations in Punjab, Kashmir, and the Northeast, and recent developments such as the rise of coalition politics and the BJP since the 1990s.
