Holi Speech For School in English

A very pleasant morning to the respected Principal, Teachers, and my dear friends. I feel elated to get this opportunity to speak about my favourite festival Holi. Known as the festival of colours, Holi has a special place in each one’s heart. The festival brings joy and happiness to our lives. Holi is celebrated all over the country to mark several important incidents in history.

The most significant story is related to Holika Dahan, which is marked as a victory of good over evil. It is believed that ‘Prahlad’, son of the king of daityas (demon) named ‘Hiranyakashyap’ submerged himself in the devotion of God. This made his father angry and he thought of killing his son. For this evil deed, the king asked his sister Holika for help. Holika was given power by Brahma, which made her immune to fire. Holika took Prahlad to a pyre and made him sit on her lap. It is believed that Prahlad’s devotion towards God protected him from the fire. Fortunately, Prahlad was saved and Holika got burnt into ashes. A night before Holi, people from North India, South India, and Nepal burn pyres of wood to celebrate Holika Dahan. This marks the victory of good over evil. The festival of Holi is also celebrated to mend broken relationships and spread love with everyone.

People sing, dance, and enjoy delicious meals on the next day of Holika Dahan which is celebrated as the festival of Holi. Kids play with water and colours and seek the blessings of their adults by applying gulal to them. Indian delicacies like Gujiya, Mathri, and Malpua are prepared in every household and are considered significant on the auspicious occasion of Holi. With this I conclude my speech. May this Holi add all the bright colours to you and your family’s life.

Wish you a very Happy Holi.
