SOME USEFUL POLYHALOGEN COMPOUNDS:-

1.  Dichloromethane: (CH₂Cl₂)

Uses:-

a.      It is widely used as solvent or paint
b.      It is used as cleaning and finishing solvent

2.  Trichloro methane [chloroform] (CHCl₃):-

It is slowly oxidized by air in light to form extremely poisionous gas

Uses:-

a.      It is used as solvent for Resins, Rubbers, Oils and Fats.
b.      It is used in production of from refrigerant, R – 22

3. Tetrachloromethane:- CCl₄:-

Used:-

a.      It is used in manufacture of refrigerants
b.      It is used as a feed stock in synthes of chlorofluoro carbon

4.   P, P¹ – DichlorodiphenylTrichloro ethane (DDT):-

Uses:-

a.      It is used as insecticide to kill mosqnitoes and crop protector.

b.      It is used insecticide in the agriculture for Sugarcane and Foddercrops.
