  • The unit has three texts. The Unlikely Best Friends is a Jataka-style story about Gajaraj, a royal elephant, and Buntee, a stray dog, who become such close friends that neither will eat when they are separated.
  • A Friend's Prayer by Jill Wolf is a short poem in which the speaker prays that she may always value her friends, do her best for them, and love them exactly as they are.
  • The Chair is a story about Mario, who boasts about his many friends until his grandfather's “invisible chair” shows him that only three of them — Guneet, Asma and Deepa — really care.
  • All three texts answer the same question in different ways: who is a real friend? A real friend shares, misses you, holds you up when you fall, and accepts you as you are.
  • The language work of the unit covers prefixes that make opposites (un-, in-, dis-, mis-), the three past tenses , neither…nor / either…or , root words and suffixes , and adjectives with adjective–noun pairs.
  • The speaking, listening and writing tasks include a leopard-and-cow listening story, a talk about two friends' outdoor activities, role-play conversations, a paragraph about how your friendship began, and a message to your best friend.
