Class 12 students of CBSE board encounter formal and informal invitations and replies writing in the writing skills section of their board exams. It is easy to fetch 4 out of 4 marks in this question by keeping the format and basic guidelines in mind. For all four types – formal invitation, formal reply, informal invitation, informal reply – students should keep the word limit in mind.

Being human we all are social by nature, meeting people, inviting them, meeting them is a part of our daily life. While having all these interactions, there comes a time when we have to send the invitation and have to accept some. We are going to explain how to write the invitation and replies to them in formal as well as informal way.

Structure of Formal Invitation
If we specifically talk about the Formal Invitations then they are generally a type of invitation cards. These cards are used to invite people on weddings, birthdays, inaugrations etc. Invitation comprises of the details such as who, when, whom, where, time and the reason of invitation. Other details that formal invitations carries is, name of the organiser, address etc. In case of official invitation, it also has name of the chief guest, special invitees etc.
Length of Formal Invitation should not exceed more than 50 words, as per the guidelines laid down by CBSE.

Informal Invitations Structure and Format
Structure of Informal Invitation
As the name indicates, these are informal invitations that a person generally send to their family or firends or relatives. Tone of the informal invitation remains informal and relaxed, emotions and personal feelings is the essence of informal invitation. The address of the writer is written at the same place, where it is written in formal invitation. “Dear” is used in salutation, accompanied with the name of the writer. Date is written but without year. The invitation ends with “Yours Sincerely” or Yours Truely”.
