The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” (KVPY) is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research.
This program aims to assist the students to realize their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is groomed for research and development in the country. Generous fellowship and contingency grant are provided to the selected KVPY Fellows up to the pre Ph.D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier. In addition, summer camps for the KVPY Fellows are organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country.
KVPY 2017 – Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. Students are requested to go through the details provided below to know about the program details. Selection of the students is made from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. Special groups / Committees are set up at IISc to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centres in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
The department offers two fellowship grants in basic sciences for students enrolled in different courses and year wise.
- SA/SX/SB- Only the students enrolled for the period of 1st to 3rd year of courses such as B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. and also Integrated such as M.Sc. /M.S. are eligible for this fellowship. The candidates are granted a monthly amount of Rs. 5000/- with the annual contingency grant of around Rs. 20000/-.
- SA/SX/SB-Only the students enrolled in M.SC courses and also in the 4th to 5th year of the Integrated programs such as M.Sc. /M.S./M.Math./M.Stat. are eligible for this fellowship. The candidates are granted a monthly amount of Rs. 7000/- with the annual contingency grant of around Rs. 28000/-.

There are three steps to complete the application process
- Step 1. Registration.
- Step 2. Enter the personal details and academic details, after that select the center for the test and finally upload photo and signatures.
- Step 3. Payment of application fees through the online payment gateway.
Please note that the candidates must pay the fees only at the application portal of KVPY. This can be done by the candidate either by using a credit card/ATM-Debit card/Net Banking or they will be able to pay the fees also by downloading a Challan from the application portal. Please bear in mind that no other means of payment will be accepted by the body.
How to Apply?
A Candidate must apply for KVPY 2017 Fellowship Exam only through the KVPY website i.e www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in
The online mode will be the sole mode to apply for the KVPY fellowship program for 2017. No other means/mode of application will be accepted.
Before the candidate proceeds to fill the Online Application, he/she should have the following documents in his hand prepared in order to avoid delay in the application form. The documents required for filling the application form for KVPY 207 fellowship are as follows scanned image of:-
- scanned copy of caste/medical certificate (for PWD).
A valid E-mail and Mobile Number is compulsory for the online registration of KVPY 2017.This E-Mail and Mobile number will be used for contacting the correspondent. Therefore the details must be kept active till the declaration of results.
Once the candidate receives his/her User id and Password on mail/mobile, they will not be allowed to make any entries for making changes in the Online Application. Candidates are requested to fill the online application form with the utmost care.
The eligibility criteria for KVPY 2017 program has been mentioned in brief detail below. The criteria has been discussed stream wise.
Stream SA: Students enrolled in the XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2017-18 and having secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination.
Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII standard / (+2) during the academic year 2017-18 and aspiring to join an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) for the session 2018-19 provided they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination. They must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.
Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st Year of an undergraduate program in sciences (B.Sc./B.S./ B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) during the academic year 2017-18 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII/(+2) Standard Board Examination. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./M.S. they must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.
Admit cards will be available for download from the official website. The students are required to register themselves before they can download the admit card for KVPY 2017.

- Visit the site www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in
- On the home page click “Application Form”
- Search “click here to download Admit card 2017”
- Insert your “User Id”and “Password” for candidate login.
- Click the icon “Login”.
- Download Admit Card.
Note-If you have forgotten your password please click “forgot password”
Generate New Password using these steps:-
- Enter your User ID or Email ID or Mobile number.
- Type the text as shown in the image with no special space and characters.
- If you are unable to see the text, refresh to “get new image”.
- Now please click “Get password.
The candidates are requested to check their test centers mentioned on the the admit card. The details related to KVPY 2017 test centers can be downloaded from the brochure. If the student who is applying for KVPY 2017 fellowship has any queries regarding the test centers they may contact the authority. Please bear in mind that no request to change the test center shall be admitted or permitted in any case.
The test for the fellowship of KVPY 2017 will be conducted in the following cities. Given below exam centres is as per last year exam and only for references.
The program for the fellowship of KVPY 2017 does not follow any specific syllabus as such.There is no prescribed syllabus for the written exam as well. The written exam is designed to measure a candidate’s understanding and analytical ability rather than his/her factual knowledge. However, students may refer to the syllabus respective to their stream.
- For class 11th students who will be appearing under SA stream students can refer to the syllabus of up to class 10th and 11th
- For SB which is a stream for students of class 12th students can refer to the syllabus of 12th class and undergraduate.
- For SX students are enrolled in the first year of their undergraduation may refer to the 1st year of graduation i.e B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat. etc.
The results of KVPY 217 will be declared after the scrutiny by the officials. Candidates will be able to download their result from the website i.e www.kvpy.iisc.ernet .No student will be sent the result 2017 KVPY through any post separately. It is the sole duty of the candidate to check the result on their own. The result declared will be final. Thus, no request to re-check the answer sheets shall be entertained.
To check the result for KVPY 2017 , candidates can visit the site from the link provided and click “Results ” on the homepage of the site. After visiting the result section. To check the result for the KVPY 2017, students will login visit their user id and password. The result will be displayed in PDF format. The copy of the result must be preserved by the student as it will be used further to grant the fellowship.
Aptitude Test : After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country on Sunday, the 29th October 2017.
Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
Based on the previous years cut off the data available here is for the reference of the students to get an idea about the expected cut off for the 2017 KVPY program.
