What Is in Give and Take? (Class 3 Maths Chapter 12)
- Adding puts two amounts together. Subtracting takes one amount away.
- A box diagram shows the whole and its parts. The part we must find is marked with a ?.
- Ten ones make one ten. Ten tens make one hundred. We use this to add and to take away.
- On a number line we can jump by 100, by 10 and by 1 to reach the answer.
- Long ago people swapped things. Today we give money for what we buy.
- Notes and coins have different values. Five ₹100 notes are the same as one ₹500 note.
- Before working, we can estimate. We guess the answer to the nearest hundred.
