- In 12 × 3 = 36, 12 is the number of groups (multiplier), 3 is the group size (multiplicand) and 36 is the product.
- To multiply a big number, split it into hundreds, tens and ones, multiply each part and add: 125 × 8 = 800 + 160 + 40 = 1000.
- Ten-times and hundred-times just add zeros: 6 × 8 = 48, so 60 × 8 = 480 and 600 × 8 = 4800.
- Division is taking away equal groups until nothing (or only a small remainder) is left, as in 58 ÷ 3 = 19 with 1 wheel left over.
