These places are important because each one serves the whole locality. A park gives a safe place to play and walk. A school teaches children. A hospital treats sick people. A bus stop helps people travel to school, work or the next town. These are public places, so anyone may use them.

Life would become much harder. Without a park, children would have to play on the road, which is not safe. Without a school, children could not learn. Without a hospital, sick people would have to travel far. Without a bus stop, people would walk long distances and reach late.

I can keep these places clean and safe:

• I throw waste only in the dustbin.
• I do not pluck flowers or break branches.
• I do not scribble on walls and benches.
• I tell an elder when a light, a tap or a bench is broken.
• I join a cleanliness drive with my friends.

I agree with this statement. When people work together, a big problem becomes a small one. In Kanker, Chhattisgarh, the Chinar river overflowed in the rainy season of 2024. The whole community built a simple but strong bridge of bamboo and stones in just two days. Now students reach school and villagers cross the river easily.

Yes, people in my locality help each other. Last year heavy rain filled our lane with water and mud. Every family came out. The men cleared the blocked drain, the women swept away the mud, and we children picked up the plastic bags. By evening the lane was clean again.

My family gets ready for Diwali together. My grandmother makes the sweets. My mother and my aunt clean the house. My father brings the diyas and new clothes. My sister and I make the rangoli and hang the lights. Because each of us does one job, the work finishes early and it is fun.

Some ways to take care of nature and our neighbourhood:

How they help:

Because a school has many jobs, and no one person can do them all. When everyone works as a team, each job is done on time, children stay safe and the school stays clean. If even one person, like the bus driver, does not do their part, everyone has trouble.

Yes. Working together makes our activities more useful because more work gets done in less time, more ideas come up, each person does what they are best at, and more people are helped. It is also more fun, so people come back to help again.

My involvement will help the community. The place becomes cleaner and greener. Other people see me and join in. Things everyone uses, like benches and lights, last longer. Neighbours learn to trust and help each other, and I learn to help too.

My grandmother told me about basket making, which is famous in our region. The baskets are made from thin strips of bamboo. The strips are soaked in water and woven over and under. The baskets carry vegetables and grain, and are sold in the weekly market.
