CBSE Class 10 Painting Syllabus 2027 – Practical Work & Assessment
Painting is a practical-heavy subject – 70 of the 100 marks come from practical work and internal assessment, with only 30 marks from the written theory paper.
The practical exam (50 marks) is a Painting-Composition task – painting from memory in water colour, poster colour or pastel colour on a given subject, based on sketching from life and nature, and may also be abstract, semi-abstract or in folk-art form. It is assessed on compositional arrangement (15 marks), treatment of media with an appropriate colour scheme (15 marks), originality and creativity (10 marks), and overall impression (10 marks). The Internal Assessment (20 marks) includes three Periodic Tests in the year of which the best two are counted (10 marks), and a Project Work/Portfolio of the student’s 10 best colour sketches and painting compositions in water colours, poster colours, oil pastels and pencil colours done during the year (10 marks).
