CBSE Class 10 Home Science Syllabus 2027 – Unit-wise Topics Covered
The CBSE Class 10 Home Science theory syllabus (70 marks) is divided into six units, covering the following broad topics.
Unit I – Human Growth & Development – II (12 marks): Play (birth to 5 years) and its role in physical, cognitive, social, emotional and language development; types and selection of play material; Childhood (3-11 years) age-specific milestones; Adolescence – physical, motor, social, emotional and cognitive features. Unit II – Management of Resources: Time and Energy (12 marks): Time management and time plans; energy management; fatigue – types and ways to reduce it; work simplification. Unit III – Food and Personal Hygiene (8 marks): Hygienic handling while selecting, cooking and serving food; kitchen hygiene; personal hygiene of food handlers; hygiene during food storage. Unit IV – Meal Planning (13 marks): Concept and importance of meal planning; factors affecting meal planning; basic food groups given by ICMR; planning a balanced meal. Unit V – Food Safety and Consumer Education (12 marks): Problems faced by consumers; food adulteration and adulterants; Food Safety Standards under FSSAI (2006). Unit VI – Care and Maintenance of Fabrics and Apparel (13 marks): Cleaning and finishing agents; stain removal – classification, identification and methods; storage of cotton, silk, wool and synthetic fabrics.
CBSE Class 10 Home Science Syllabus 2027 – Practical Work & Assessment
Home Science is a practical, application-based subject. Of the total 100 marks, 30 marks are reserved for Practical work, assessed through lab activities, a play material project, file work and viva.
The prescribed practical work for CBSE Class 10 Home Science includes: making a suitable play material for children between birth and 5 years (group activity); planning a balanced meal for self; preparing a time plan for self for one day; writing a report on five market malpractices and consumer responsibilities; preparing a slogan/poster on consumer education; removing stains (curry, grease, ball pen, ink, lipstick, tea and coffee) from white cotton fabric; and listing areas of agreement/disagreement with parents, siblings and friends. As per the Scheme for Practical Examination (30 marks), Lab Activity carries 15 marks (Balanced meal plan – 5, Time plan – 5, Stain removal – 5), Play Material carries 8 marks, File Work carries 5 marks, and Viva carries 2 marks.
