- सूक्तिः — सु + उक्तिः । शोभना + उक्तिः = सूक्तिः इति कथ्यते । एतासु सूक्तिषु जीवनमूल्यानि सन्निहितानि भवन्ति । एताः सूक्तयः अस्मान् जीवने उन्नत्यर्थं प्रेरयन्ति । संस्कृतसाहित्यम् एताभिः सूक्तिभिः परिपूर्णम् अस्ति ।

- पाठ का स्वरूप — यह पाठ दस सूक्तियों का संकलन है। पाठ का शीर्षक ही दसवीं सूक्ति है — ‘हितं मनोहारि च दुर्लभं वचः’ अर्थात् ऐसी बात जो हितकारी भी हो और मन को भाने वाली भी हो, दुर्लभ होती है।
- सूक्ति क्या है — सु + उक्तिः = सूक्तिः , अर्थात् ‘शोभना उक्तिः’ — सुन्दर वचन। पाठ के आरम्भिक संवाद में आचार्य कहते हैं कि सूक्तियों में जीवनमूल्य निहित रहते हैं, वे हमें सन्मार्ग की ओर ले जाती हैं, और संस्कृतसाहित्ये सूक्तीनां भाण्डागारः अस्ति (संस्कृत साहित्य सूक्तियों का भण्डार है)।

- व्याकरण — मकारलेखनम् — ‘म्’ के आगे यदि व्यञ्जन हो तो ‘म्’ के स्थान पर अनुस्वार ( ं ) लिखा जाता है (पुस्तकम् पठति = पुस्तकं पठति); और यदि आगे स्वर हो तो ‘म्’ ही लिखा जाता है (पुस्तकम् अपठत् = पुस्तकम् अपठत्)।
