- पाठ का स्वरूप — यह माता और पुत्री का संवाद है। पुत्री की जिज्ञासा है — ‘वयं मनुष्याः प्राणिनः कीटाः च कथं भूलोके आगताः ?’ माता उत्तर में सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति का क्रम बताती है, जो उपनिषदों में वर्णित है।
- सृष्टिक्रम (मुख्य विषय) — ब्रह्मणः आकाशः → आकाशात् वायुः → वायोः अग्निः → अग्नेः जलम् → जलात् पृथिवी → पृथिव्याः ओषधयः/सस्यानि → सस्येभ्यः आहारः → आहारात् कीटाः, प्राणिनः, मनुष्याः । यही क्रम पाठ के अन्त में तैत्तिरीयोपनिषद् (२-१-२) के वचन में भी दिया गया है।
- ‘ब्रह्म’ का अर्थ — पाठ के अनुसार ब्रह्म कोई मूर्ति नहीं, अपितु सर्वत्र व्याप्त चेतना-शक्ति अथवा ऊर्जा है — ‘ब्रह्म इत्युक्ते चेतना-शक्तिः, ऊर्जा वा या सर्वत्र व्याप्ता अस्ति।’ जैसे आकाश और अणु सर्वत्र व्याप्त हैं।
- व्याकरण — पञ्चमी विभक्ति — जहाँ से कोई वस्तु अलग होती है, निकलती है या प्राप्त होती है, वहाँ अपादान कारक में पञ्चमी विभक्ति आती है — आकाशात्, वायोः, अग्नेः, जलात्, पृथिव्याः, सस्येभ्यः, आहारात्, महादेवात्, विद्यालयात्। प्रश्न बनाने पर कुतः / कस्मात् (स्त्रीलिङ्ग में कस्याः ) आता है।
- पञ्चमी के रूप — अकारान्त पुं.: –आत् / –आभ्याम् / –एभ्यः (आहारात्, आहाराभ्याम्, आहारेभ्यः); इकारान्त पुं.: –एः / –इभ्याम् / –इभ्यः (अग्नेः, अग्निभ्याम्, अग्निभ्यः); आकारान्त स्त्री.: –आयाः / –आभ्याम् / –आभ्यः (पेटिकायाः); ईकारान्त स्त्री.: –याः / –ईभ्याम् / –ईभ्यः (कूप्याः, कूपीभ्याम्, कूपीभ्यः)।
